Grosso Sanese originates in a vineyard covering about two hectares next to the estate headquarters. The fairly compact lime-based soil is composed mainly of alberese and galestro. The vines are pruned according to the spurred cordon method, leaving a maximum of six buds.
Production is limited to 5,000 to 6,000 liters per hectare (2.5 acres), for a total production of about 10,000 bottles per year. Fermentation takes place in 5,000-liter oak barrels. The wine is refined in barriques made of Alliers oak, thirty percent of which are replaced each year. Here it stays for eighteen months, before the final blending and bottling.

95 Vinous
The 2015 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Grosso Sanese is a powerful, brooding wine. A rush of sweet red cherry and floral notes appears first as the Grosso Sanese shows off its personality. The style is super-classic, with the intensity of the year peaking through just a touch of volatile acidity that is at the limit, but adds character here. Blood orange, sage, mint and pomegranate appear later, adding to a real feeling of exoticism. The 2015 is undeniably quirky, but also a wine that you want to taste over and over.

Argenina is one of the oldest hamlets in the territory of Monti in Chianti. Il Palazzino winery owns three hectares of vineyards, all recently renewed. This terrain is 310meters above sea level, fanning out with an exposure ranging from southeast to southwest.
The grapes are fermented in steel vats at a lower temperature than is used for Pieve and Grosso Sanese so as to preserve the intensity of the primary aromas of the grapes, then the new wine is poured into small oak casks for aging. Appellation: CHIANTI CLASSICOZone: Monti in Chianti (Siena) Blend: Sangiovese with a small percentage of indigenous red berry varietals Soil Type: Calcarous, medium textured, tufaExposure: South, South-East, South-WestColour: Ruby red Nose: Fresh, fruity, red berries and plumFlavour: Fresh, quite soft, medium bodied, round,
